Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has personally harvested three potato crops while inspecting the agri-industrial complex in Russia's Voronezh region. This year's drought, following an unprecedented month-long heatwave, deprived Russian farmers of any hopes for a good harvest in areas where the fields were not artificially irrigated. The government had even banned all wheat exports for a year, causing concerns over bread prices both at home and abroad.

24-year-old Colombian Edward Nino Hernandez has been officially named the world's shortest man by Guinness World Records. He measures just 70.21 cm (27.46ins). The previous titleholder, He Pingping of China, was an inch or so taller and died on March 13, 2010. Nino weighs just 10 kilograms (22 pounds), and, according to his mother, he's not grown since he was 2 years old. It's possible Nino's reign will not be for long as Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal is expected to claim the title when he turns 18 on October 14. He measures about 56 centimetres and is currently recognised as the shortest living teen.

There is only one history, but there are quite a few interpretations. The 20th century saw quite a number of serious attempts to rewrite history, says the head of the Russian State Archive Sergey Mironenko. The secrets and facts hidden within the archives of most countries are tempting to both historians and conspiracy theorists alike. Russia's State Archives are perhaps the most fascinating in the world, revealing key moments of recent history, ranging from the Second World War and the Stalin era, to the current rise of neo-Nazism in the Baltic States.
